Thing #28

Google Reader is my personal favorite. I’ve had it set it up back in Thing 6 & 7. I have several feeds that I view weekly: David Pogue, Will Richardson, and Tammy Worcester's Tech Tips. I actually follow these through my business google reader. Using the Stars and Like is especially helpful when it's something I can apply right away or want to come back to. I follow more personal interests on this blog. I consider it my training ground. Once I master a task here I use it on my business blog.

Thing #27

I created a facebook account some time ago. I initially created it so I could "watch" my kids and their friends. Although I still am "friends" with them, I now use it primarily to communicate with lots of family members who don't live close by and that I don't get to visit with often. I check it every night to see if any of them have posted anything. It's a great way to stay in touch on a regular basis without having to wait for a family reunion and I love getting to see pictures of all the kids as they grow up. It's so easy and I can totally understand why today's youth love this product. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though they comprehend the repercussions of inappropriate language and pictures in regards to future employment. Some of the stuff my kids' friends put out there is disturbing. So, write to you in September!

THING #26 GETTING SOCIAL with WorldCat.org

That was interesting! I'm going to keep looking at this and thinking about how I can utilize this for the Media Center here at ESU3. I have some ideas but want to bounce them off some Media Specialists first. I completed all of the "assignments" as instructed. I created an account with WorldCat.org. I added Omaha Public Library and LaVista Public Library as favorites. I created a list. I posted two short blogs - one linking to a detailed record and one linking to a list I created. I also have a link to WorldCat.org in this blog. Thanks Susan for the info on how to add a WorldCat Search Box Widget!! Have a great summer!

Thing #25 GOOGLE MAPS

WOW! I've used Google Maps for what seems like forever. I relized through this exercise I was never really using it at all :-) Anyway....I had alot of fun with this one. I found the Nebraska State Capitol and saw several different colored cars - red, white, etc. My favorite view is the street view. I lived in Germany during my high school days and it was nostalgic and VERY COOL to be able to "walk" along some of those streets again....such memories! I searched for EUS3 and there are so many markers. I tried cleaning them up. I can't figure out some things about removing markers but I'm actually still working on it. I also created a custom map. If you search in Google maps for "ESU3 School Districts" you will find it. I also "claimed" the media center. While I was wrorking on this assignment I also downloaded Google Earth. I can't wait to spend some time with that. All in all this was a great learing experience.

THING #24

Well…There is no one talking about ESU3 or the media page on any blogs. No surprise there! So if or when someone actually links to the site, I won't know. However, I did set up a twitter account, a flickr account, and set up some alerts. My alerts range from the 2009 CWS to some educational/technology stuff. It was pretty cool going into email today and finding something. I'm following a couple of CWS twitters...Huge Fan of the CWS! I only uploaded a few photos to flickr so responses - not so much. I'm planning on uploading more tomorrow. I have also figured out - with the help of Alanna (thanks Alanna) - why and how I have two Blogs! I've decided to keep both and use this one for Nebraska Learns 2.0 and the other for work. We'll see how that goes! Bye for now!
